How To Get Around Network Censorship

One of the most important part of my computer is it’s internet connection. I use the internet a lot, and without it life becomes so much more dull. There is one thing worse than having no internet - a crippled internet. My boarding school here in Singapore blocks out a lot of websites and ports that I feel is unnecessary  and that it actually hampers the internet experience.

In my boarding school I can get 2 networks, one is my school’s internet network and the other is my boarding schools network. There are 3 different kinds of programs used to censor out and block the internet - Fortiguard, Trend Micro Interscan and another unnamed software. These 3 firewalls seriously makes life hard on us boarders by blocking out some innocent sites and some much needed ports. Friendster, Facebook, Youtube, Filestube are blocked. The firewalls are so strict that even some advertisements on websites are blocked. This is what I’ll call an overkill.

Here are the two software products that I have found and personally tested that can bypass internet censorship whilst providing anonymous surfing:

Note: These 2 programs can bypass and get around fortiguard. Personally tested.

Ultrasurf

ultrasurf privacy security and freedom

UltraSurf is the flagship software product from UltraReach Internet Corp. for Internet anti-censorship. This was one of the first anti-censorship software I have ever used, however the recent versions of it has been blocked in my boarding school. Oh well, all good things have to come to an end.

Features:

  • It is a green software (meaning no installation - just start and surf)
  • Small download size
  • Proxy speed is fast compared to other web-based proxies
  • Supports most if not all of a normal internet users needs (implements almost all browser functions)
  • Can use Internet Explorer without having to configure anything, however if you want to use any other browser, some tweaking would have to be done

GlobalPass (aka GPass)

GPass is now my favourite software I use to bypass network censorships. It is even better at getting around network censorships when compared to Ultrasurf. The speed of it’s proxy server is even faster and the connection more stable too.

Features:

  • It is a green software (meaning no installation - just start and surf)
  • No need to configure individual software to bypass the firewalls, just drag the icon of the software into GPass and it’s ready to go
  • It’s speed is fast
  • Small download size

I hope that this 2 softwares help out other people who are facing internet censorship out there, especially students in boarding schools like me. Xp. I might be doing one comprehensive post about GPass one of these days.

Ran Out Of Ideas To Make Money Online?

Have you ran out of ideas to make money online? If you have, don’t worry as I recently was introduced to this list of 101 make money online ideas.

After just giving the list a cursory glance, I can say that just by reading this list you will get lots of ideas and inspiration on how to make money online. There are 101 money making ideas in that list, most of them requires minimal levels of skill and very little start up capital. Gone are the days where you could give the “But, I don’t know how to make money online” excuse.

One of them which impressed me the most was the 8th one in the list of 101:

8. If you’re smart AND a linguist you’d be doing that in multiple languages. And not paying for any domain till you’ve tried it free for five days to see if it does indeed get any type-in traffic (and how well that traffic converts). After you’ve tried it for five days and dropped it there’s nothing to stop you immediately picking it up again for another five day trial. Strange, but true. It’s not kiting, it’s legal.

I now understood how people could afford having so many domain names that only advertisements on them – they did not even buy the domain names. However, I don’t this money making idea is viable anymore as after checking wikipedia on Domain Tasting.

And now I want to contribute with my own make money online tip which isn’t in the list:

Sign up for forums and be a very active member, helping other members and generally contributing the community. Once you have a respectable amount of posts, you can then sell your signature space. This method require absolutely $0 start up capital :)

Don’t forget to check out the 101 make money online ideas guys.

Notebook? Netbook?

I just came across an article on AmitBhawani where there was a few very interesting articles about the notebook and the netbook, the first being about the Netbooks Vs Notebooks and the other being the post about the Best Laptops.

Personally I own a notebook which is a Toshiba Portege tablet PC which I classify as a notebook. It’s my main computer as I do not own any other desktop PC. While the Toshiba notebook gets the work done, I generally dislike it a lot as even though the specs my look good on paper, it’s generally as slow as anything I have every encountered. Within the first 4 months of owning it, I experienced my first blue screen of death – no thanks to Windows Xp tablet edition which was running on my Toshiba notebook.

I really can’t wait for my new computer which is going to be a MacBook. I think MacBook’s are awesome, and even though my new computer is going to have a slower processor than my current computer, I’m confident that my computing experience would be much more smoother and enjoyable.

If you were to ask me, I’ll say get a notebook if its going to be your main computer, but if you already have a power horse at home and need something portable, go for the netbook.

An Interesting Way To Make Some Money Online

While surfing the internet the other day, I came upon this site DesmondBlog where there was a very interesting post. The post talked about how a 17-year old was making some money off the internet every month. Well the amount in question is about $300, which to you all might not be a lot, but Desmond said that the method could be easily expanded to earn more money.

In simple terms, it’s basically asking someone to do something for you (CPA offers) in return by giving something back to him, which is usually in the form of buying his credit or points off him for a higher price. As this method doesn’t need a website to start with, I highly recommend this method for all of you who do not wish to spend even a single cent on trying to make money online - this method is completely free :D .

Anyway, to read more about it, please do check the original post here
