More Details On The Launch Of The Iphone 3G In Singapore By SingTel

iphone 3G singapore I’m sure many of you would be wondering when exactly would the Iphone 3G go on sale in Singapore. Well, the highly anticipated Iphone 3G will start selling at 12:01am on the 22nd of August 2008 at SingTel’s Comcentre headquarters at 31 Exter Road, and I so wish that I could be down there to see how the whole atmosphere is :) , unfortunately I can’t :( .

Anyway, SingTel released new price plans aimed for Iphone users called iFlexi plans, which compromises of the iFlexi Value Plan, iFlexi Plus Plan and the iFlexi Premium Plan. These plans are the first phone plans in Singapore with bundled talktime, SMS and data. These iFlexi plans are not compulsory for those who want to get the Iphone but prefer to stay on their current plans although the iFlexi plans have lots of extra’s that will certainly help enhance the Iphone experience such as free Wirless@SG extended beyond 2009 and a bundled allowance of data at 3.6Mbps.

Other plan details for the Iphone 3G.

As you can see, the Iphone 3G isn’t going to be cheap as under the 2 cheapest plans available the Iphone 3G costs $698 (8GB) and $848 (16GB). I was somehow hoping it’ll be much cheaper than that :( .

One thing to note before you decide to drop your hard earned cash for the Iphone 3G now is that both StarHub and M1 report that they will be selling the Iphone 3G before the end of the year. If you hold on for a while and buy the Iphone 3G later you might be able to get it at a cheaper price and with more benefits. Who knows :D ?

The Apple Iphone 3G Is Coming To Singapore On The 22nd Of August

singapore iphone 3g I’m sure many of you have heard of the Apple Iphone, it’s what Apple calls a revolutionary device which is a phone, an Ipod and an internet device rolled into one slim and stylishly designed package. Basically, the Iphone is exactly like the Ipod Touch that is being sold in here in Singapore except that it also works as a phone.

I’ve some good news for all of you Singaporeans who are waiting for the Iphone to be launched in Singapore as the wait is over – the Apple Iphone will be launched in Singapore on the 22nd of August (Yes, this month) and it will be exclusive to SingTel [Source].

SingTel will be launching both the 8Gb and 16Gb in either black or white colors. So far they have not announced their pricing or plans yet, but you can sign up here to make sure you are notified when the plans and pricing are unveiled. I signed up too as I’m really interested to know more about the Iphone. I might even consider getting one if the price is agreeable :) .

Many wonder why the Iphone is such a big deal especially since there currently are phones on the market that are touchscreen, has 3G, WIFI enabled and basically most of the functions and even the look of the Iphone. To me, it all comes down to two words – the experience. The whole Apple experience, something a Windows user will never really comprehend until the make the switch and try out the whole Apple ecosystem and then get forced back into the Windows world.

Anyhow, I’ll be writing more articles about the Iphone soon, so you can get to read more about the Iphone in the coming days.

Now for all of you who have been waiting for the release of the Iphone 3G in Singapore ever since it was launched in America, it’s time to rejoice :) , and if you’re a Starhub or M1 user, time to switch to SingTel – the exclusive network in Singapore that can sell the Iphone.

I’m Impressed By The Singapore National Education Show

singapore national day parade ndp08

I went for the Singapore National Education Show 2 of 2008(NE Show) a few weeks back on the 12th of July and I must say I’m really impressed with everything about the show, from the events to the way things were organized.

National Education show is actually a preview and rehearsal of the National Day Parade (NDP) and it aims to instill a sense of pride, patriotism and  sense of unity among Singaporeans. The National Day Parade 08 (NDP) celebrates the 43rd birthday of Singapore on the 9 of August and has the theme “Celebrating the Singapore Spirit”.

Usually if you wanted to get tickets to watch either the National Day Parade or even the NE Show, you usually have to go through a process called e-balloting by submitting applications through either sms, internet and phone and then have an extremely slim chance of getting the tickets. However, the Ministry Of Education (MOE) has kindly reserved a certain amount of NE Show 2008 tickets for scholars :) and I was one of the few who got nominated to go for it.

I took lots of pictures, a couple hundred of megabytes worth of pictures, many which I guess you guys won’t find interesting, so instead of posting everything, I’ll post the “cooler” pictures. :)

NE Show red lion

These are the Red Lions in action, they are a 12-man team of elite jumpers.

Some more pictures of the Red Lions, hmm, I have to admit I take pretty nice pictures.

NE Show red lion

Reds……

NE Show Singapore anthem

This was taken during the National Anthem, 4 helicopters flying the flag of Singapore over the Marina Bay.

These are the F16 airplanes performances and some of my favorite pictures here. I can’t remember what the squadron is called, but I think it was called the Black Eagles or something like that :D .

NE Show black eagles

The 6 F-16’s.

NE Show black eagles

This was one of the tricks performed by the squadron. 2 F16’s passed very close  by each other.

NE Show Heart Shape

This one was pretty and cute. A heart shape thingy.

The rest of the pictures below are during the night performance.

NE show night performance

Don’t ask me what performance this is, as I can’t remember, but it was quite nice.

NE show ending performance

This was near the end of the whole Singapore National Education Show, all the performers came onto the stage.

NE show fireworks

And the Singapore National Education Show ended with fireworks, quite nice ones mind you. This is just one of them.

Oh yea, during the National Education Show, each person who goes receives a funpack full of goodies. There was the Singapore flag, a bag, a whole book of coupons with discounts and stuff, drinks, food, a National Day Parade cap with blinking lights, wet tissue, and inflatable gaint glove and even a rain coat. Haha, the planners were good, they prepared for everything, even for rain. :)

One of the most creative thing I saw in a while was a lucky draw that had it’s “entry forms” on disposable waste plastic bags. The whole idea was to help encourage the viewers of the National Education Show to throw away their rubbish. You have to admit it was creative.

bag it and win

Let’s keep Singapore litter free. Yea :)

Well so this was the Singapore National Education Show for you, which is nearly exactly the same as how the National Day Parade would be. When all is said and done, I’m really impressed with Singapore and I wish I could see something like this during the Malaysian National Day. :D

Get StarHub GREEN Top-Up Card For $15.30

Note: The cheapest price you can get the StarHub GREEN Top-Up card is $14.50 at the in-Touch Teleshop at Blk 631 Ang Mo Kia Ave. Credit goes to Amelia. I haven’t checked this out yet, but I will the next time I go down to Ang Mo Kia.

I don’t know how much do you Singaporeans get your StarHub GREEN top-up card for, but now I get mine for $15.30. If you’re new to Singapore and using StarHub GREEN prepaid, the worse place you can buy your top-up card is at 7-Eleven or at those 24-hours open shops as they charge you $18.00 for an $18 value top-up card. If you buy from smaller general shops, you can easily get the $18 value top-up card for $15.50. Take this advice from someone who has been living here for half a year :)

OK. $15.50 still isn’t $15.30, but here’s the story:

I used to think that $15.50 for the StarHub GREEN top-up card was the cheapest price I could get it for until yesterday. I needed credit and I went to a shop I usually bought my top-up card from. Well, it was a Sunday and the shop was close. Oh well, I was thinking of walking 10 minutes away to another shop where I usually bought my top-up card for $15.50, when I suddenly remembered there was another general shop close by. At that time I wasn’t sure whether it sold top-up card but since it was so close by I decided to take the risk, and the risk paid off :) . The shop was ran by an Indian guy, and the first thing that I saw was this sign reading “StarHub Top-Up Card : $15.30”. Haha. Taking risk does pay off.

I know that $0.20 isn’t much to any of you, but if you’re a student in a foreign country, it’s always the pennies that decide whether you are able to survive with the money that the scholarship gives you and whether you need to ask your parents for more money :) .

Oh, I forgot to tell you the place. The place where I bought the $15.30 Top-Up card is near the bus stop opposite the ACS (I) Boarding School, which is somewhere in Dover, one bus stop down from the bus stop opposite the International World College.

acs boarding school

Yea, I know the words are a bit small, so if you need more clarification, please comment here.

Singapore

Some of you may or may not know this, but I’m studying currently studying for my O’ levels in Singapore on a school-based scholarship. With me living and studying in Singapore now for quite a long time (my scholarship is 4 years), I think it would be prudent if I created a new “Singapore” category on my blog.

In this “Singapore” category, I’ll post everything and anything somewhat related to Singapore, such as contests, news, happenings in Singapore and much much more :D . I know “Singapore” is a very broad category, but I decided that I need to have some broad categories so that I decide more easily which category a posts belongs in.

And with this post, the “Singapore” category is now considered open. Enjoy :)
