Bought Some Much Needed For My New Computer

I recently bought a whole new lot of “cheap” software to use for my MacBook that I just got.

  1. Ecto

  2. iSale

  3. SousChef

  4. World of Goo

  5. PhoneView

  6. LittleSnapper

  7. Acorn

  8. Kinemac

  9. WireTap Studio

I bought all this software in 2 bundles. The first one - Ecto I bought seperately which cost me around $19.95. The rest of the applications I bought through the MacHeist 3 bundle which costs me $37.

I bought Ecto as I needed it to replace Windows Live Writer which I used to use on my old laptop. I was thinking of buyinh Mars Edit instead of Ecto, but Mars Edit was more than double the price of Ecto so in the end I decided to go with Ecto. I bought the MacHeist 3 bundle as it was relatively cheap when you compare the many applications you get in return. On top of that, all the applications in the bundle are quite cool and they donate a portion of all proceeds to charity.

I haven’t had time to download all the applications I bought yet, very busy studying :P

WebHostingBuzz - The New Web Host For Drett

I recently changed my web host for Drett to Web Hosting Buzz a few weeks ago as my old plan at another web host was expiring. Although my new plan is slightly more expensive than my old plan, it offers so much more and thus enables me to start thinking about running more sites on my current plan.

During the period of transition you might have experienced some downtime, ranging from a couple of hours to 2 days. I’m really sorry about what happened, but many things played a part in it such as the internet not working properly just as I had changed my DNS for my domain name and I could not upload to required files to my new host.

My new plan is relatively cheap at only 3.95/month and gives me unlimited addon domains, unlimited subdomains, unlimited domain parking, unlimited FTP accounts and unlimited MYSQL databases whilst providing me with 375Gb of disk space and 5000Gb of bandwidth. I have never found a web host as cheap as this that gives me the option of unlimited addon domains and unlimited MYSQL, so to me this was a really good bargain.

Their uptime so far has been really good, the only time my server went down was for an emergency maintenance which they informed us within minutes of it happening. Their support has been pretty good too, answering my pre-sale and technical support information.

I highly recommend Web Hosting Buzz to any one who is in need of a new web host as so far this host has been spectacular for me performed better than I expected :D .

Plagiarism Is The Best Form Of Flattery – True?

EDIT: He has since taken down the post so you can’t view it anymore as noted by one of the comments. Here’s the Google Cache link.

Nowadays plagiarism and imitation is rampant everywhere, more so on the internet. Many bloggers blatantly plagiarize material from other blogs whether in part or in full and then republish them on their own blog as their own works with no credit given to the original blogger.

I recently found out that one a post of mine concerning the launch of Google Chrome had been plagiarized by some Singaporean called Nick who claims to have retired at the age of 25. The offending post is here and it was published on the 06-09-08 while my post here was published on the 04-09-08.

part 2 google chrome plagairism

This was a screenshot of the offending post over at his blog.

A screenshot of the original post written by me on Drett.

Nick didn’t even bother to give me a linkback or mention which I feel is the very least a person can do if he wants to republish half your post completely unedited and call it his own work. After looking around his blog a little and just checking it with Copyscape, I found many of his so-called posts on his blog were just copied and pasted on.

This isn’t the first time a post of mine has been completely taken and republished elsewhere, but there is always a linkback to my site so even though I don’t like it, I don’t take action. This however was the first time that I found a post of mine being plagiarized in this manner. Things like this aren’t flattering, rather, they are more of annoyance for the original blogger. For all those of you who are reading this, please do not forget to provide a linkback or acknowledgement to the original blogger as that way he won’t feel like he has been plagiarized :P .

What do you think I should do about this? I haven’t contacted to him yet which I most likely will do after my end of years exams requesting that he either take my material down or link back to the original post :D .

I Made My First Guest Post

Over the weekend I was given the chance to be a guest blogger at Derek-Ang.com which is quite a popular blog owned by Singaporean Derek Ang which receives a few hundred visitors in a single day. I feel quite honoured to be given this chance to write a guest blog on such a popular blog as these kind of opportunities are not something you receive everyday :D .

I wrote a really informative article about the benefits of leaving comments on other blogs and I suggest you take a look at it as I’m sure that you will find it useful.

Basically the few benefits of leaving comments on other blogs are:

  1. It gives you a free one way back link to your site
  2. It gives you free traffic to your blog
  3. It helps build up your reputation as a blogger or webmaster
  4. It helps to foster friendship between you and the other blogger

For a more detailed explanation of the benefits of leaving comments on other blogs please do check out the post I made over at Derek-Ang.com.

Like I said earlier, this if my first guest post as a guest blogger at another blog. I hope that I may be invited to be a guest bloggers at other blogs more often, so if you need a guest blogger, please do not hesitate to invite me or ask me.

You Can Now Advertise On Drett

As the title of the posts says, you can now buy advertising space on Drett. While designing my new Wordpress theme for Drett (the current one I’m using, it’s new!), I designed to allow for premium placing of advertisements. And now since I have more or less finished designing the theme and am currently using it, I am now selling advertising space on Drett.

Currently there are a few ways to advertise on Drett, the sitewide 125 x 125 button advertisement that is located on the top right corner of the sidebar, the post-level 300 x 250 square advertisement and the free products/services review.

As Drett is a relatively new site, I’m selling my advertisement spots at a really cheap rate – so cheap you have to admit it is cheap. The sitewide 125 x 125 button advertisement space is going at a rate of $1.00 for a period of 30 days. That is really cheap especially since it is in a prime position, right near the top of the page.

The post-level 300 x 250 square advertisement space is going at a cheap rate of $5.00 for a period of 30 days. This post-level advertisement space is a non-rotating advertisement space, which means that only 1 person can buy it for the period of 30 days and that 1 person’s advertisement will appear either right at the top, in the middle, or  right at the bottom of the posts on every single posts of Drett. If that posts is particularly popular, the more the better for you :)

The one other way to advertise on Drett is with the free product/services review. This means you send me or provide to me a product or service you want to be reviewed, and once I have chosen to review it, I’ll write a fair and informative review, thus bringing up the buzz level of your product or service :) . It can either be an ebook you are selling, or an invitation to a beta site or even a normally paid service provided free to me.

Oh, even though I have stated the prices of the advertisement spaces, if you’re good at haggling, then you might even get to lower the already incredible low advertisement spaces rates. So what are you waiting for? Use the contact form at the end of the posts to contact me and make a deal.
